THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW: October 23rd - October 31st.

Ichabod Crane, a bumbling eccentric schoolmaster, moves to a superstitious town haunted by a headless horseman. A Puritan who constantly quotes Cotton Mather, Ichabod insists he is not superstitious. When a dark figure on horseback follows him home one night, Ichabod screams in terror and shows that he is as superstitious everyone else. The next morning, all that remains of Ichabod Crane is his small, tricorner hat and the sound of his voice.

THE TRIAL OF THE BIG BAD WOLF: April 23rd - May 2nd

Using the music and styles of the “Rock-n-Roll 1950’s”, this masterfully staged comical version shows what might have occurred had the Big Bad Wolf been tried for his offenses.

The Wolf, very much a “Fonzie” type character, and his black-jacketed gang are being tried by the Three Little Pigs. By the end of the trial, Red Riding Hood, Peter and The Boy Who Cried Wolf enter into the drama. The characters portray stereotypes from the 50’s, and along with the clever musical numbers, enjoy unfolding the various sides of the story. In the end it is the Wolf who pleads guilty so he can be saved from dancing with “Grandma” to the tune of endless recordings by Lawrence Welk.

This light-hearted musical is full of fun and music that will be enjoyed by people of all ages.

*Show times: Friday's at 7:30pm / Saturday's & Sunday's at 2pm. There will be one special "School Day" Performacne on Tuesday, April 27th at10 am &12:30 pm.

The tradition of Theatre for Young Audiences began at Albuquerque Little Theatre as early as 1944, when founding director Kathryn Kennedy O’Connor mounted a musical production of The Prince and the Pauper.  Years later, The Albuquerque Children's Theatre (ACT), founded by Bill Hayden in 1962, under the direction of Sue Ann Gunn, found a permanent home at the Little Theatre in January 2002.  The Family Theatre Series coordinated by Kathryn Morales remains dedicated to continuing ACT's original mission of:  “Producing quality theatre by, for and with children.”

Each season, the Family Series presents at least three prominent plays. These plays are drawn from both classic tales and contemporary literature, written by the foremost playwrights who craft Theatre for Youth.  Past productions have included: James and the Giant Peach, The Velveteen Rabbit, There’s a Boy in the Girls’ Bathroom, and Free to Be You and Me.  The artistic agenda aims to offer challenging stories with family-friendly themes, performed by multigenerational companies.  Study guides are provided for parents and teachers to extend and deepen the theatrical experience.

The Family Series productions are enhanced by the variety of educational programs at ALT. Through workshops for children, youth and adults, the power of theatre is used to engage the imagination and to develop the skills of cooperation, creative thinking and self-confidence. Workshops also help develop focus and self control, and include instruction in basic stage movement, vocal projection and enunciation. Our goal is to offer fun and exciting classes that help our students learn the basics, as well as opportunities to expand their theatrical knowledge and experiences as they become involved in community theatre here at ALT. For a detailed description of our current listing of classes please visit our Educational Programs page.

Ultimately, the Family Series celebrates the creative spirit in everyone, young and old alike.  In producing superior quality, affordable theatre for families, we endeavor to create your most memorable theatrical experiences.
